“How do I know if an angel touched me or if I am experiencing the Holy Spirit?” is an excellent question yet at the same time can be a tough one to understand. Let me state why. Most Christians have not felt any touch, or if they have, it has only been once or twice. If they had felt something, for the most part, they would just state that they were touched by God, which is right. When we begin to walk closer to God and become more aware of what is happening around us in the spirit realm, then we start to open ourselves more to this type of experience. Some people are more sensitive than others, and if you are not sensitive to the spirit then you might never feel a thing, and that is ok.
For the most part, if you are feeling things from the inside, then you are experiencing the Holy Spirit because this is the place He should be living in. But this depends on each of us choosing to allow Him to live in us. He will not make us do anything that we do not want to. If the Holy Spirit is moving within us, we can feel it like a stirring, which is getting our attention because He wants us to respond to Him. There are times when we will feel Him pour out the anointing and we will have a hard time standing because our bodies become weak. The Holy Spirit is mighty yet very gentle, and His ways are too many to count. The more we spend time with Him the more we will experience Him in different ways, and come to know that it’s Him who we are feeling.
If you are feeling something from the outside, it’s usually an angel, but can be different for everyone. A typical example of this that I also mentioned briefly in “Walking with Angels” is that at times in worship you may feel a hand on your shoulder or head. It might just feel like a gentle weight or chills down your back or across your neck, which is an angel ministering the presence of God to you. The angels are always around ministering to us much more than we know, and because we do not see them, we forget that they are even there. There could be times when you will feel someone hold your hand or feel like you have been wrapped in a blanket. If you were to state that this was from God, you would not be wrong, but we also need to understand that God uses His angels for much more than we think.
Like any area that we walk in that is new we need to ask lots of questions to God and wait for Him to give us the answers. If this is an area that you already walk in then push in more in-depth and help others around you to walk stronger in this area. The more sensitive we can become to the things of the spirit the better off we are.
Timothy, author and friend of God, shares out of a place of daily walking face-to-face with the Lord, encountering both the angelic and the saints of old, seeing and understanding things from a heavenly perspective.
