Prophecy is something that everyone can walk in. Prophecy is about getting revelation for someone else instead of just yourself. This is why hearing the voice of God is so essential for our walks because once we have come to a place of maturity in this, then it becomes easier to hear for others. Prophecy is not always about hearing but is also about seeing. For me seeing is stronger and I rely on that more for others than just hearing, but in my own quiet time, I hear for myself every day.
There are a few levels of prophecy: First, there is the prophet who will prophesy at the highest levels with the most significant details. This is not to say that from time-to-time others will not touch this level, and it takes much more than just prophesying to make a prophet. This is something that only God can do. Second, there is a gift of prophecy we see in 1 Cor 12. This a gift that the Holy Spirit gives to ones He chooses. Once this gift has been given, then the person with this gift can prophesy at will and does not have to wait until God brings them something. They can go to God and get the revelation for someone to bring a blessing. The third level of prophecy that can get overlooked is the “Spirit of Prophecy”. According to Rev 19:10 the Spirit of Prophecy is the testimony of Jesus Christ. So what does this mean? From what The Lord has shown and taught me it is that when we speak about the great things of Jesus and what He has done, then we are prophesying.
Prophesying is much more than just telling about the future or what is happening in the now. As we walk and grow with The Lord and begin to pray for others, the Spirit of Prophecy will always be present if we know it or not. It’s at this moment that we can pray words over them to cut right into their body and touch them in a way that only the Holy Spirit can. You may not even know you are doing this, but the person may say to you that is what I needed to hear, or how did you know that. This is the basic level of prophecy but the level that God uses the most. Do not go looking for the big words that may not come to pass for years but look for the things to say to one another to touch people in their everyday lives. This is something that we all need.
