don't write it off - write if out!

Picture

Have you ever had a dream that seemed so bizarre that you were sure that it could not possibly be a dream from God? Or did you have a vision that just did not make sense, no matter how hard you tried to understand it? Did you write it off, or forget about it? If you did, then you are not alone.  Many of us write off our dreams when they are just too odd for us to decipher, or when we feel we have mitigating circumstances that suggest that we cannot be hearing from God at that precise moment of our lives. Don’t write it off; write it out!

One thing I feel to address is the view of pregnancy dreams.  People will say that when you are pregnant, your dreams are crazy and therefore unreliable.  We have five children, which means my wife (Karen) has spent a significant proportion of our married life being pregnant.  Karen is a dreamer and received some clear revelation through dreams while being pregnant, so do not be in a hurry to write them off.

There are two points I want to draw from this, the first of which applies to everyone, not just those who are pregnant.  The first one is you need to come to know the voice of God very precisely so that you can determine which dreams are from Him, and which are not.  Do not instantly write off a dream that does not come in a manner you are accustomed too.  God has many facets, and sometimes He shows you one and sometimes another.  Think about a close friend? When they call you on the phone, do you recognise them immediately? Can you tell that it’s them even if they are very excited, or upset in tears just as quickly as you can when they are serious or joking around with you?  Why would it be any different with God? The second one is, do you seriously think that God would say, “You are pregnant, so I am not going to speak to you in dreams for the next nine months”?  That does not sound like God to me.

Yes, I do believe some things interfere with our final hearing of God, but that does not mean we should automatically write off every dream that we do not understand.  In fact, if you do not understand the dream then that is all the more reason to write it out. Writing it out helps you to recall the dream, to clarify its points and to ponder the meaning.  It helps you to see a pattern, to pray back to God, and to ask Him for help with understanding the dream and its application.

Maybe one-day circumstances will be such that you remember a strange dream that you once had and realise that this is what God was showing you.  If you had written it out instead of written it off then perhaps you could have been more prepared for it. God is the God of both the ordinary and the extraordinary.  No matter how out-of-the-ordinary your dream seems don’t write it off – write it out!
