In this blog, I am going to continue my Encountering God series by mentioning an overlooked area that we can experience Him in, which is Creation.
If you are an outdoor person, then creation can be a fun way to encounter God. God can speak through anything if you let Him: like the stars, water, rocks, trees etc. which can be both nature and the cosmos. God created these things and because of that no-one knows them as well as He does. If you spend any time studying dreams in the Bible or your own life, you will find that God loves to speak through His creation.
When they are many people, do not pay any attention to their surroundings and therefore miss what God is speaking. It can take a bit of time to get used to if you are not an outside person, but if you stop and take a look around you can see the beauty of God everywhere. If you happen to live in a place where there are four seasons, then you get to have a good taste of how God works in planting and reaping, seasons of desert or winter, and so on. The scriptures are full of passages talking about the creation of waterways and mountains and trees, and if you take some time to glean from them, you might be surprised where God takes you about this.
When I go camping, I like to get up early with a hot drink and sit outside, before anyone else gets up, and feel the stillness of God's creation. For me, it’s at this time that His voice can be more explicit, and He will speak to me about what I am seeing around me. He will take the trees or the water or the birds etc. and talk to me prophetically about what He is doing in my life and the lives of others.
We never know when God will speak to us, but if we make time for all things He loves, then there is more opportunity to hear Him.
