The timing of God is a subject that seems to be lacking in understanding in many Christian walks and is why so many are not sure what is going on, or what God is doing. This lack of understanding keeps us walking around the mountain instead of moving forward into the deeper levels of God. We can say ‘I am waiting for God to open the doors so that we can enter in,’ but God is saying ‘I am waiting for My Sons and Daughters to begin to move forward and come closer to Me.’ If we look at a basic definition of the timing of God it would look like this:
The timing of God is being where God wants you at this moment.
Let’s look at this. God does not live within our structure of time yet He has created it for you and I. This means it is for our benefit to have the time system that we have. We still need to understand that this is not the time system that God works by. The time system that we have on Earth that is the closest to God’s time system is the Jewish calendar. We see God do more things on the Earth following this calendar than the Roman calendar that we live by. For so many years Christians have thrown out the ways of the Jews and because of this we forget that Jesus is Jewish and was the one who set up this calendar and the feast days for the Jewish people. Yet saying this God is not bound to any calendar and still follows His own. We walk so much with our natural eyes and live with so many material things that we put them before our spiritual eyes and what is happening in the Spirit.
Understanding God's timing means a change of mindset from looking around us and then looking up to God to drawing very close to God so that we can look around Heaven and then look back down on Earth. This is not about having a spiritual encounter but is about walking with God. Understanding something is not always about seeing, feeling, or hearing something, it is coming to the place of knowing something through the eyes of understanding, no matter what that looks like.
This a topic we will spend much time looking at because it is very important in the times we live in now. But for now let’s look at a few practical ways and questions we need ask God so that we can begin to walk in a greater level of understanding of His timing.
First is coming to God to spend time with Him with no agenda. This needs to be done on a regular basis not as a one time thing. The reason for this is if we always are bringing things to God then we do not give God the opportunity to bring anything to us. When we give God this opportunity it lines us up with what God wants and then we begin to fulfill what He desires instead of what we desire. Second is doing whatever God wants no matter the cost. This might mean great sacrifice on our part, but we need to remember that He will not ask us to do anything we cannot handle. Third pray. Begin by asking God to help you to fulfill God's heart for your life at this moment in time. Fourth ask God to grant you understanding of His timing. Ask Him to show you the difference between what is going on in the natural realm versus the Spiritual realm. Then ask Him what it will take for you to walk in His timing all the time.
